Before you start replacing the Y-axis guide rail, make sure to find a relatively spacious workbench or table for the disassembly and assembly. Then, it is essential to power off the machine and disconnect the power to ensure your safety during the operation.
① Rotate the red knob on the Y-axis belt tensioner counterclockwise to remove it.
② Move the heated bed to the front and use a wrench or other tools to move the belt buckle fixed on the heated bed to the left and remove it.
③ Use an M2.0 hex wrench to unscrew the two screws that secure the tensioner.
④ Remove the tensioner and then take out the belt from the tensioner pulley.
Move the heated bed to the position of the motor at the back of the printer base.
① Use a wrench or other tools to move the belt b uckle fixed on the heated bed to the left and remove it.
② Pull out the old belt.
③ Be aware that the other end of the belt buckle may get stuck at the edge of the guide rail when pulling it out. Adjust its position accordingly.
Use an M4.0 Allen wrench to remove the 2 screws at the marked position. (Since the Y-axis motor module and wiring are secured together with cable ties, you could place the Y-axis motor module within the range of movable wiring.)
Slide the heated bed out from the Y-axis guide rail towards the back of the device. Then, place the heated bed aside for future installation.
①Ensure the machine's bottom faces you as shown in the picture to perform the following disassembly steps.
②Use an M4.0 Allen wrench to remove the four screws that secure the Y-axis guide rail, as indicated by the red sections in the picture.
③Use an M2.5 Allen wrench to remove the two screws as indicated by the yellow sections in the picture.
Take the new Y-axis guide rail and align it with the screw holes on the base. Using an M4.0 Allen wrench, first pre-tighten the 4 M5*50mm screws marked in red on the picture. Then pre-tighten the 2 M3*20mm screws marked in yellow. Finally, tighten all the screws.
Place the machine in an upright position and slide the heated bed assembly onto the new guide rail. If there is any jamming, use an open-end wrench to adjust the hexagonal eccentric spacers underneath.
Use an M4.0 Allen wrench to tighten the two screws that secure the Y-axis motor module.
①Thread one end of the belt through the hole at the back of the Y-axis motor.
②Secure the other end by attaching the belt's copper clasp to the metal bracket.
③After securing it, slide the clasp into the groove on the left.
① Thread the other end of the belt, which is not fixed, through the hole in the guide rail and loop it around the pulley.
② Move the heated bed to the side of the control panel (you could reference the axis core on the guide rail for specific positioning).
③ Secure the belt buckle to the sheet metal fixation.
④ Once secured, move it to the groove on the right.
⑤ Install the housing of the Y-axis tensioner, and use M2.0 to tighten the two left and right screws.
⑥ Rotate the tensioner knob clockwise.
Turn the Y-axis belt tensioner knob clockwise to make it as tight as possible and then rotate it counterclockwise two turns.
Use an open-end wrench to adjust the hexagonal eccentric spacers on the right side of the heated bed until the bed can move smoothly without noticeable play when rocking it left and right. For a more visual guide on the specific steps, refer to the Kobra 2 leveling guide operation video. The video demonstrates the adjustment steps starting at 57 seconds. Follow the video instructions to ensure the smooth movement and stability of the heated bed.
After replacing the Y-axis guide rail, On the main interface, click "Tools"icon ➜ "Control"icon ➜ "Module Calibration" ➜ "Position Calibration." The machine will automatically probe and stop near the calibration module. Use the interface's distance units and X/Y axis movement directions to adjust the nozzle to the center position of the calibration module. Once done, click "Save" and then perform the automatic leveling process again and manually adjust the Z-axis offset during printing to avoid printing in the air.
We recommend checking the Y-axis dual-axis guide rails every month to ensure they are clean and free of foreign objects. This helps maintain the smooth operation of the guide rails and ensures the stability and accuracy of the machine.
Turn off the machine and disconnect the power. Using a lint-free cloth or a soft brush, check if there is dust, debris, or other foreign objects adhering to the rail surface. If there are any, gently remove them. Check the smoothness of the rail's movement path, ensuring there is no sticking or resistance. Use your hand to gently move the Y-axis and observe the motion of the rails.
If you find a significant amount of dust or debris on the rails, you can follow these cleaning steps:
Use an air gun or a hairdryer to blow away the dust on the rail surface. If using an air gun, lightly press the trigger, being careful not to blow excessively to avoid blowing dust into other components or damaging electronic parts.
Apply a small amount of lubricating grease to the core on both sides of the Y-axis rails. Then, gently move the corresponding print head module and heated bed to distribute the grease evenly on the rails.
After completing the maintenance, gently push and pull the heated bed and print head module by hand to check for any sticking or wobbling. If present, refer to the leveling guide of the Kobra 2 video to readjust the hexagonal eccentric spacers. (Insert leveling guide video link here)
Reconnect the power and turn on the machine. Perform a test print run, observing smooth movement of the Y-axis without any abnormal resistance or noise. Ensure the cleanliness and proper functioning of the rails. If you still have any issues, it is recommended that you create an after-sales work order to feed back the process and results of the previous inspection to the after-sales engineer. After-sales engineers will help you solve the problem.
If the above steps do not provide assistance or if you encounter any other issues during subsequent use, we recommend that you create a support ticket. The after-sales engineers will assist you in finding a solution to the problem(Reply time :1 working day)
