This article is written based on the 1.3.5.2 version of Anycubic slicer Next slicing software. If the software version is inconsistent, there may be some discrepancies.
The cut tools in FDM-3D printing slicer software is a very practical function, mainly used to split a complete 3D model into two or more parts. This is very useful in many scenarios.
Model is too large
When the model size exceeds the size of your 3D printer's build platform, it must be split into small pieces, printed separately, and then assembled.
Save support filament
Sometimes, after rotating or splitting the model, some parts that originally required a lot of support can become self-supporting structures, or the area requiring support is greatly reduced, thus saving material and time.
Optimize printing direction
(1) Certain features (such as holes, overhangs, and text) print better in certain directions.
(2) After segmenting the model, you can choose the optimal printing direction for each part (for example, print the side that requires fine details facing up).
Press and hold the left mouse button and drag an axis coordinate to rotate the cutting plane around or around the X-axis, Y-axis, or Z-axis. You can also enter an exact value in the input box.
After we split the model, we need some connectors to reassemble the separated models. The connectors currently include Plug, Dowel, and Snap. The effect after adding is shown in the figure
In addition to adding connectors, the slicing software also provides another connection mode "dovetail tenon", which forms a mortise and tenon-like structure after cutting, making it easier to assemble parts after cutting.
At the same time, you can adjust the depth, width, flap angle and groove angle parameters as needed to make the parts more accurate, as shown in the figure.
Tips: After cutting the dovetail tenon, you may be prompted to generate non-mainstream edges. You can click to repair the model according to the prompt, and then slice it.
